Rotary Clubs plan district assembly

The Rotary Club of Kona, Kona Mauka, Kona Sunrise and North Hawaii will not hold their regular meetings this week.

The West Hawaii District Assembly will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at West Hawaii Civic Center. The morning will begin with roundtable discussions with community representatives talking about homelessness, mental health, education and literacy. Possible future projects that Rotary can help partner with will also be discussed.

The remainder of the day will include breakout sessions offering training and informational classes on international projects, Rotary Foundation, grants, strategic planning and National Immunization Days to help continue Rotary’s efforts to eradicate polio. In 2015, the world saw historic progress against the paralyzing disease, with just two countries – Afghanistan and Pakistan – reporting a single strain of the wild virus. If the current momentum is strengthened, this year may mark the last case of wild poliovirus.
